Why does my wife's app store on her iMac looks different than my app store on my iMac??? Her's is the top image.
Our iMacs run similar OS and they both are 1 year old. My app store has always looked like this since there was an app store????

As I mentioned, the appearance of the App Store changed with Mojave. Meaning, the App Store in High Sierra looks different than the one in Mojave. The App Store looks the same in Catalina as it does in Mojave.

Just to add, you are on Mojave or newer, your wife is on High Sierra or older. The App Store interface was changed with Mojave.
Because you are looking through updates while she is going directly to the AppStore?
Launch the AppStore from your Dock or Applications folder.
Yes, this is expected behaviour when the operating systems are different. One of the “features” of Mac OS 10.14 was a new look App Store.

Similar but not the same. Your version of macOS is newer.
I thought yours was the top photo. The top photo is Mojave.
I just took this pic of both our app stores on Featured. I never remember ever having my app store look like here's. Mine is on the top this time...
