Using LibreOffice with .docx
When I open a docx file in Libre Office by using Open With or by changing Open With in the info pane it gets stuck for ages on Verifying. Can anything be done about this?

Quit LIbreOffice. In your Applications folder, control/right-click on the LIbreOffice application and choose Open (not Open With) from the secondary menu. A brief verification progress panel will appear, and then another panel will open Click Ok on that panel, and the ritual is over. Future launches of LibreOffice will not encounter the verification phase.

It turns out that if I make LibreOffice the default for opening .docx files the problem goes away. I can just double click them and they open straight away. Thanks for your help.
You can drag and drop a .docx onto the LibreOffice icon in your Dock, and that will open the document too. If you are using LibreOffice v6.4.2, it now utilizes the macOS styled file chooser (like the Finder), and selecting Word documents there, actually opens them quicker than drag and drop, or any other approach.
Thanks, but when I choose Open from the secondary menu, LibreOffice just opens to its normal start page showing my recent documents. I'm not getting that verification progress panel, or the panel that should follow it.
I don't get the verification phase when I launch LibreOffice or when I open a Word document from within LibreOffice, only if I try to open a .docx or .rtf by right-clicking on it and using Open With. And I can't use the info panel to open Word documents in LibreOffice for the same reason. It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.
I'll try that, thanks.
