Touch ID is not working

I can set up the fingerprints on my iphone 8 but then the phone doesn't recognize any of them for opening the device....or any usage at all. I have to enter my passcode every time. I have followed all the advice from being sure I have the latest IOS to re-entering different fingers and doing a restart. Nothing works.
