MacBook Air Screen Black

My MacBook Air screen is black and the power cord light is not on. I tried holding shift, control, command, power and released at once with no success. Any suggestions?

If it appears your Mac won't turn on at all, no signs of life whatsoever, read If your Mac doesn't turn on - Apple Support.
