Airdrop with USB WiFi adapter OSX Mac

How can I use airdrop on my iMac while using a USB WiFi adapter and not the native internal WiFi adapter?

Airdrop doesn't work from desktop to iPad I used to be able to transfer files from desktop to iPad with no problem. Now I have to "Move to iCloud to collaborate". When I accept, I can't find the file on iCloud. I've had to resort to emailing myself to get my file. I have the current iOS and OS on my devices.
