Phone calls on my MacBook Pro?

Until recently I have been able to answer calls to my iPhone on my MacBook Pro, but suddenly, I am not able to answer the prompt on my MacBook Pro. Could this be related to Catalina?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.13

Hi ljtflute,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I use my Mac to answer calls all the time myself, and I understand you're having an issue with that function on your own Mac. I'd like to get more information about what's happening to see how I can assist.

When you say you're not able to answer, what exactly is happening? Does it not respond when you click to answer, does the call fail, or something else? If you see an error message, be sure to provide the full text.

The best steps will depend on the exact issue, but I have some suggestions as a general starting point. I recommend working through the list below to make sure that calling is configured correctly, as there are a few settings to cover on both devices. This is from the link titled Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch:

"Set up iPhone Cellular Calls

You can use iPhone Cellular Calls with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that meets the Continuity system requirements. It works when your devices are near each other and set up as follows:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device is signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Each device is connected to the same network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
  • On your iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on Calls from iPhone.
  • On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone."

Post back here with an update on what's happening if that doesn't clear things up.

Have a good night.
