I am trying to open EOS Utility 3.12.10 for macOS
on my iMac, but it will not open.
I have just downloaded it, and the icon will show for a second in the tool line at the bottom, and the disappear again.
Anyone who can help?
Canon support says it is Apple who have to fix.

Except it appears to quit even before it can tell what camera is attached. It should run even with no camera connected.

What are you trying to do? If it is just to download images, no Canon software is required. I only install Canon software to do testing for questions like this. 8^)
In this case it really does appear that Apple changed something from the final Beta of Catalina and the release version that broke Canon's software, so I don't know who is at fault.

Did you read the Canon precaution statement in the link that you provided, about certain Camera models will use the older EOS v2.1.4 utility even when the EOS 3.12.10 utility is installed? If this is the case for your camera model, then the question rises whether EOS v2.1.4 is even compatible with the version of macOS that you have installed. Is there firmware available for your Canon camera that you have not installed yet?
Canon is solely responsible for every aspect of their software, drivers, and firmware compatibility with the intended operating systems that they list as supported for their product version's System Requirements. Apple has nothing to do with Canon's product development, or support.
It could also be that the particular Canon camera model used the older v2.1.4 EOS software that may not be compatible with the operating system that remains a question. Not the Apple hasn't a history of breaking code…
