You could uncheck "Organize by conversation" in the View menu.
If you check "Highlight conversations," it will highlight all messages in a conversation when you select a message.
Thank you. I'll give that a try and see if it works for me.
FYI - when I uncheck "Organize by conversation" and then check "Highlight conversations" it does what I want, but then I look at "View" and "Organize by conversation" is checked again, as is "Highlight conversations." I don't yet know if this is a problem. I'll work with it.
I selected Highlight" and unselected "Organize," quit Mail and re-opened. "Highlights" was selected but so was "Organize." So, I unselected "Organize," and rebooted my iMac. When I opened Mail, "Highlights" was selected and "Organize" was not! I then closed Mail and re-opened, and "Highlights" was selected and "Organize" was not selected. This may have solved the problem.
Thanks for your advice.
The OS doesn't write preferences instantly anymore. It can cache them for a while, and then write to disk at some later point.
What you saw may be a flaw in that method of changing user preferences. But, I don't know for sure.
Mine didn't reselect. Did you quit and re-open Mail?
I did try that and mine kept the settings.
