I want to change my default browser to Chrome, because of the translation option.
if Safari added that, it would be fine. But it is not there. I live in Mexico and receive many links to articles in Spanish and want Chrome to be my browser of choice. Is this not possible? That’s ridiculous!

Sorry, at present, neither iOS nor iPadOS have a mechanism by which you can configure a default browser.
Whilst you can install additional browser Apps, they can’t be set as a default. However, what you can do in iPadOS13 is long-touch on a link; from the Action Menu that appears tap the Share option - the select the browser App of your choice, from the Share sheet, in which to open the link.
A few extra steps, but it’s a viable workaround for quickly opening a link in an alternative broswer.
