Notification sound but no notification

For the last few weeks or so, I’ve been getting notification sounds that I believe are just the default ios sound, but when I open up my phone, there are no notifications. I have looked it up online, and all the results say it’s either an app that has notification settings to allow sounds but not banners/notification center, or it’s from the mail app. I do not have the mail app installed on my phone, and I have gone through my notifications settings at least 3 times, all apps either have notification center allowed, or they have all notifications disabled. Is there anything else that might be causing this?

iPhone 8, iOS 13

Ok i found this and I think it can help

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201925

go to section “If you don't see notifications for a specific app“

it gives more than one solution to what sounds like the issue you’re having.

im here regardless if you continue to experience the same thing even after trying the steps in that article. 🙂

best of luck

hey there,

you’ve probably gone through this article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201925 after reading your post.

can you give more specifics?

Like is it specifically one app or all apps?

i want to confirm, you are getting sound that you received a notification with no visual of that notification received?

how are you checking your notifications? What iPhone do you have?

thanks for reaching out! Hope I can help!

Apr 17, 2020 12:38 AM in response to SilversApprentice

I’m sorry the article did not provide much help!

let’s see.... what app is this specifically?

is it just one app or all of them doing this to you?

if it’s one app, try going through that apps settings. Either within the app and find something related to notifications and see if possibly there’s a bypass to the system setting for notification

if not, another place for specific app settings is:

settings > scroll to very bottom and find the app your talking about and make sure notifications is correct for it.

make sure too, do not disturb is off. Can be enabled and disabled via control center. iPhone 8, swipe up from bottom of screen and press the moon

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204321

if you have an Apple Watch too make sure of that. Swipe up on screen and toggle moon on/off

found couple more things:

  • try and see if it’s your WiFi connection causing the issue.
  • if connected to WiFi, turn WiFi off, and test by emailing yourself or texting yourself if either of those apps are troubling you. If notification appears, whoever configured your modem/router’s firewall has got it set to custom and possibly has the necessary IP and ports for notifications blocked (very technical) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203609

if issue continues, try restarting the device https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201559

found this too.

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/change-notification-settings-iph7c3d96bab/ios

this goes in extreme detail and may be useful https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/NetworkingInternet/Conceptual/RemoteNotificationsPG/APNSOverview.html

hope this helps!

i do want to point out an update to 13.4.1 appears to be available. I would try updating and see if that resolves it

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204

if persists then,

Hmm, I seem to not be understanding your exact issue.

are you experiencing this at this very moment?

if so, please explain in detail what and how things play out and also when and where things became inconvenient for you.

im just trying to understand what’s going on

Apr 17, 2020 12:47 AM in response to SilversApprentice

I’m only trying to help man.. let’s work as a team...

so I can get a clearer understanding,

when your issue occurs, were you expecting a text message or email?

You can test apps and quickly learn if it’s one, most or all apps.

i would try the articles in my last post. If you don’t find them helpful, I’m sorry :/.

im more than willing to work together and get this resolved, please give more details to better understand what’s going on if this continues.

Apr 17, 2020 1:05 AM in response to SilversApprentice

Your attitude isn’t solving anything either. Nor is it getting you closer to a resolution

as I said, I’m only trying to help. If you prefer to rebuttal rather than collaborate than I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help.

although this community is highly recommended for finding solutions to your inconveniences, maybe googling your issue and trying another online forum that covers Apple products could help.

sorry if I wasted your time. I’m glad to be able to provide something for you to use in the meantime.

best of luck!

Ok well, I’m not here to boast about how much I know or don’t know for that matter.

im confident in what I choose to provide from what I can understand when given an unclear issue. And I know enough to make sure I get close on relevance to the issue.

but like I said I’m not here to boast, I’m here to help. I believe I’m done here.

best of luck, genuinely! :)
