I am unable to send emails but can receive them ok. When Mail open it will often shuts down unexpectedly.

Can you help me resolve the issue.

iMac 27", macOS 10.13

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Assuming all your Mail is IMAP & not POP, highlight Inbox, from Mail's Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.

Thank you for answering my query. Today when I started up my computer my emails were working both in & out. As I am not computer savvy I will leave well enough alone and hope the problem doesn't reoccur.
