Sudden static noise during FaceTime

Hi there,

Today I was having a video call on FaceTime app on macOS Mojave and the audio would be constantly interrupted by a loud, static noise that wouldn't let me hear the other person speak, like when you're listening to the radio and you move the dial to a different frequency where there's only white noise. It'd come and go. We hung up and called again but the problem persisted. I've got no problems with the built-in microphone and the wifi connection was stable. Any ideas?

Hello Darlene_lyn and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see you are having an issue with audio quality when on FaceTime with a specific person.

There are many variable that could explain this. You refer to being on a Mac with a stable Wi-Fi connection. Was the other party using something similar or were they on a mobile device such as an iPhone using mobile data? Do you get the same result if you use a wired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi? Does this only happen when on FaceTime with one specific person or does it happen on multiple calls with multiple people?

Remember, the more specific info you can offer, the better the chances that someone in the community can help out.

Cheers.
