I used to Administer 12 Xserve running 10.6.8 Server. We installed them in 2009 and ran them for almost 6 years without issue! I think they ended up with 10.11 El Capitan, the last version of macOS that was compatible with it.
I will never forget when Apple Announced that the Xserve was discontinued. :(
They published the Xserve Transition Guide, which just wanted you to move your server to a Mac Pro.

I JUST stopping using my xserve in Dec. of 2019. Ran for 11 years with only one issue in 2017.
Trying to figure out what to do with it now. Thinking about making is a backup for the files that were transferred to the cloud.
Does anyone still have a Xserve in service?
