Update mid-2012 MacBook Pro to Catalina
I would like to update my mid-2012 MacBook Pro to Catalina. Has anyone else done this and is it a bad idea? I fear it will screw up my computer.
MacBook Pro 13", OS X 10.10

I updated one the other day without a problem. Just be aware that Catalina no longer supports 32bit apps so before upgrading make sure to either upgrade the apps or uninstall them by following the developer's instructions.
Information about 32bit app support:

If you have an original Apple hard drive installed an OS upgrade could stress the drive enough to cause a physical failure if the drive is near failing anyway.
Make sure to have a good verified backup before upgrading just in case something goes wrong.
I also suggest making sure you can boot into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R or creating a bootable macOS USB installer. Again just to make sure you have a way to boot the system if something goes wrong.
