some texts from a contact in my iPhone 11 are showing as being from ‘infomessage’ (not the contact) and I can only read them and not not reply (send fails). I have deleted and re added the contact, they have deleted and re added me as a contact but their texts still coming to me as being from infomessage. I don’t have any third party messaging apps on my phone and iMessages is off.

I see this message is being sent as SMS. Is this happening with any contacts, or just this one?
Since the issue persists after deleting and re-adding the contacts, and you're unable to send SMS to this user, check out the steps here: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Also, be sure to Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad.
If that doesn't help, I recommend reaching out to your wireless carrier. They're in the best position to further assist with an SMS issue.

Thanks for reply. I’ve been escalated through 2 levels of Apple support and they told me to go to carrier to reset provisioning (this did nothing). Apple say it’s the carrier because if I put someone else’s sim in my phone the problem doesn’t happen / only with my own sim
I have the same problem....It is an iPhone specific issue...nothing to do with the Carrier. Please escalate for a proper root cause analysis. Random "helpful" advice is no substitute for an investigation of the root cause. Once the root cause has been established by Apple, a solution can be implemented by fixing the ios SMS application code bug.
