Dont have a password se t but to unlock drive lock, is asking for one

Don't have password set on computor or don't think so, as it goes straight into start up the desk top. but do have automatic start up set.

But when looking to click to unlock drive, to change date etc. it asks for a password and rejects any common ones I nominally use

believe i need to use my apple password to reset but with no password needed to start, don't get the password hint needed to click on

using Catalina 10.15.4

MacBook

You've set your System/Users & Groups preference pane to open without asking for your user account name or password. So if you've forgotten your password you can change it according to this Apple document: Change or reset the password of a macOS user account - Apple Support
