eSim and dual sim use: does the secondary stay in 3G?

Hello everybody, I have in my iPhone Xr one physical sim (personal) and one e-sim for work. I use to surf with the work one (having unlimited bundle of gigs), and my personal just for calls. I would like to know if meanwhile the sim using data is in 4G/LTE the “other” one is in 3G or it uses 4G/LTE at the same time.

Thank you!

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hey there, Avoxvoid,

Thanks for asking about how data works when using dual SIM on your iPhone XR. I'm happy to let you know how it works!

Only one SIM can access data at a time. So, if you're using your work eSIM to browse the web and access internet-using apps, your personal SIM is not able to access cellular data at all. You can get more information on how this works here: Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support.

Best!
