I'm still running High Sierra OS10.13.6 on my Mac mini. I'd like to have an alternative to Google search engine. Anyone know of good, reliable one?
I've gone to Apple App Store, which presents a multitude, but I'm not sure I can trust that some might corrupt my computer. Is everything presented in the App Store trustworthy?

There are alternative search engines built into all browsers.
In Safari for example…
I dislike Google for many reasons and prefer to use Bing.

I don't see those alternative searches in my Safari. If I click on Google all I get is Google. I'm about to upgrade RAM so I can put on Mojave (now have only 4 GB). After that perhaps things will work better. I've stopped using Safari because it's become so problematic, "not able to access" when I click on a link.

If your browser prefs are locked down, you'll probably find the reason in System Preferences > Profiles.
Remove all profiles you don't recognize, then run something like DetectX to clear out the persistence agents.
There is also free Malwarebytes which may take care of it...
It looks like the one item in my Profile setting is related to my Chrome browser. Please see screen shots below.

That certainly looks like a suspicious Profile to me, though I've never had a Profile, I'd delete it.
