Question: Hidden files which are duplicates of those stored in icloud drive

I just received a notification that my icloud storage is full. However, when I checked the size of the files located there, it is actually less than half of my max storage capacity. I then viewed the hidden files and folders inside and then it appears that an exact duplicate of my files is also stored there hence the reason why it is full.

So, is it necessary for this kind of backup to be there or this is just a glitch? If it is the latter, it is safe to delete the backups (which are hidden folders) to free up my storage?

No.

iCloud Drive is a syncing service. Those hidden files are there on purpose and should be be touched. They are a mirror of the files in your iCloud Drive folder.

Thank you very much. Just to clarify, you mean to say that i should NOT touch those hidden files? I guess it is weird though that icloud counts them in your allowed maximum storage capacity.

They should not be managed/touched from that location.

It is counted as part of your storage because it is what is synced with iCloud. It is your iCloud Drive.
