Question: 1080 sharing in Imovie
Like many people my Imovie has 1080 GREYED out and will only share/file at 720. I have tried everything including putting the 1080 still up front tip but it never changes the settings. Its always 720

Hi Rich. Saw this method on the net but wasn't comfortable to use it until I saw it on Apple backed up by your suggestion.
Held the option and command down then opened Imovie and BINGO!! It did it! 1080 not greyed out. Awesome.
Thank very much
In order for you to do what you want, I believe the first clip needs to be a video clip, not a still.
Start again with a newly created project.

Thanks for that. What I have read is a still . Minimum 1080. I have also tried a short 1080 clip as well.
Same problem
Hi, Andyholy,
iMovie sets the resolution of a project at the resolution of the first video clip, not still clip, that is placed in a newly created project as the very first clip ever placed in it. Your post said that you were putting a still clip up front, but that won't set the new resolution. The project will have the same resolution as the last project that was done. Therefore, when you try to share out you might not get a 1080 option.
Try creating a new project and placing a known 1080 video clip, not still clip, as the first clip. Then see if you get a 1080 option when you try to share out.
If still no 1080 option Try opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to
delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can get a 1080 option.
