Couldn't restore chat history

I had the same problem. I have checked everything from the MoonJ answer and it was all good but still didn't work.

Just forgot to do the back up of the WhatsApp separately but I still have the back up from the Icloud. I could see that I had the backup of 1.93GB but i have got the message "Couldn't restore chat history".

My problem was when I was doing the back up for the first time in my new Iphone I thought that the whasapp app was stocked because all the another apps it was alright, So I just have cancel and did the download again. So after that I had the message of error.

My solution: I have reset (full reset) the cell phone and choose one backup before the last that I have use in the first time.

But in this time I didn't cancel the automatic download of the Whastapp. Really take a long time to finish, just have done it before go to sleep and when a woke up everything was working with all the media and chats from the whatsapp (just have lost the message from the last couple of days).

According to the WhatsApp article - WhatsApp FAQ - How to restore your chat history - these steps should help you restore your chat history:

1. 'Verify that an iCloud backup exists in WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
2. If you can see when the last backup was performed, delete and reinstall WhatsApp from the App Store.
3. After verifying your phone number, follow the prompts to restore your chat history.

Note:

• You must be signed in with the Apple ID you use to access iCloud and iCloud Drive must be turned on.

• There must be enough free space on both your iCloud and iPhone. You need to have at least 2.05 times the space available in your iCloud account and on your phone than the actual size of your backup.

• The phone number used for backing up and restoring must be the same. You can't restore the chat history from another WhatsApp account.

• • Even if you share an iCloud account with a family member, you'll still be able to keep your WhatsApp backup separate from theirs due to the requirement of needing the same phone number for both your iCloud backup and WhatsApp account.'

Contact Whats App. While you are restoring from iCloud, that content is theirs and how its stored in iCloud is up to them.

you need to contact WhatsApp, they are the ones that built the app and built in the ability for it to back up to iCloud. Its their issue to troubleshoot, not Apple.

i did everything mentioned and still i am receiving "Couldn't restore chat history"

I am paying 10$ per month for icloud storage plan, but facing something like this is not appropriate for a company like Apple.

Please inform me what i have to do in order to have my chat history back.

I have the exact same problem, please it’s urgent I need the chats!!

I have whatsapp backup on icloud but I cannot restore it from Icloud and the error occurred "COULDN'T RESTORE CHAT HISTORY".

Please help.

All the solutions that Apple gave me didn’t work, I also contacted WhatsApp and they weren’t able to help. Don’t know that to do!

I am facing similar problem. The backup size is roughly 2.81GB and WhatsApp can’t restore it.
