you can use iCloud and connect both your phone (assuming you are using an iphone) and mac. make sure to check "photos" in your iCloud settings on your iphone and mac to sync your photos between devices. if you don't want your mac to have all the photos, you can alternatively just connect your phone to the iCloud and go to icloud.com on your mac and download from there. select the photos you want and click on the symbol that looks like a cloud with a down arrow at the top right.

if you don't want to use iCloud (maybe you have more than 5gb of photos and don't want to purchase more space), you should be able to connect your iphone to the mac with the lighting cable and access the photos that way. I don't personally use this method anymore and it's been awhile since I have so I can't tell you the details of how this works, but I remember doing it before when I didn't use iCloud! all I know is you can find your iphone in the Finder after connecting with the cable.

if you're not using an iphone, i'm pretty sure you can still connect your phone to your mac with the phone's charging cable and access the files on your phone that way.
