Question: Mac Pro mid 2010 no boot no chime no keyboard light power issue

hi

my Mac Pro mid 2010 does not Boot

it has no chime, no power to turn in the led caps lock light on the keyboard but the mouse led turns On and when I plug in my external hard drive the led lights on the hard drive come On. The white led light next to the power button on the Mac is always solid white when on (Even if I take out any parts of the Mac eg ram, hard drive, graphics card).

i have checked the graphics card on my pc and it works perfectly, the ram i has swapped with my pcs ram ddr3 which I know works. The hard drives have OS X leopard from Installed My power Mac g5 and so it works. I changed the battery but nothing helped. i have done smc and pram resets. But no display is occurring, I know the display works, I used dvi , mini display port, vga i also plugged in a graphics card from my pc to The Mac but did not help (I don’t know if they are supposed to be compatible or if any old graphics card works in the mac). I have tried several hard drives. Also when I boot with no ram the led diagnotic lights don’t come up next to the ram slots. Only when I turn on the computer does a red light flash on the processor board And 2 lights on the backpane board. Fans run and the optical dvd drive makes sound but cannot be controlled via keyboard. I know the keyboard, mouse works.

What should I do next?

PC RAM may not work in a Mac, what Video Cards exactly?

May not help but you didn't mention trying it...

1.. Shut the machine down.

2.. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any peripheral devices.

3.. leave it for 10 minutes.

4.. Hold power Button in for 10 seconds

5.. Connect back up and reboot.

graphics cards without Mac firmware can not show anything on the display until the login screen at earliest.

any other symptoms leading up to this?

on that other thread you referenced, said you see the advice about pulling out the processor shelf and wiggling the northbridge chip heatsink?

I tried the video card on PC,

but I guess it doesn't work.

In this case, is this reaction normal since the video card is not in mac pro?

no chime, no screen, no reaction?

The Mac video card should work fine in a PC. if not, the video card may be the issue.

A PC Video card without Mac firmware will NOT work in a Mac. If it shows anything, it will not be until the login screen.

that's right.

I finally removed the processor, cleaned it and applied thermal paste, slightly moved the northbridge but there was no solution, should I completely remove and install the northbridge?

Also, when the graphics card slots are empty on mac pro, do you still need chime sound?

The Mac Pro silver tower will chime and boot without any graphics card present. You just don't get to see what's on the screen.

and if it does chime and appear to boot normally with no graphics card installed, you know the graphics card was causing the problem.

ok,

I remove and try all the parts (except the cpu tray), I plug and try all the parts, but there is no chime sound or any warning tone, it does not react in any way

Remove all the RAM DIMMs as well.

If the power indicator blinks a small integer code, the processor is running, telling you "no useable RAM" otherwise the processor is not running.

I did not say the processor is broken.

I deliberately said the processor is not running. This may be caused by power problems, clock problems, cooling problems, other cards and devices messing up the power, and a myriad of other issues.

😅 hooh, I thought the processor was broken too.

I'm sorry I got it wrong

then have the possibility to recovery this mac, and thank you for answering my questions quickly, I am grateful, I will continue trying, I will share if I can find a solution.

Did you get anywhere with this? I am having exactly the same problem. No ping, no keyboard lights. The graphics board fan is very noisy, but still doesn't ping when i remove it
