Question: Use iMac as a monitor (MacBook Pro)

Hi I have a 2013 iMac and I'm wondering if I can use it as a monitor to my Macbook Pro 2017 13 inch? What cord do I need? is it a thunderbolt cable? do I need an application to do it?

Answer:

Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

If the iMac is running Mojave or Catalina you will have to erase it and install High Sierra.

You will need a Thunderbolt 3 adapter

and a Thunderbolt cable.

Apple Thunderbolt Cable (2.0 m) - White - Apple (CA)
