Question: Cannot open any file on Mac 10.13.4 on finder level

Hi, so a few days ago I downloaded a pages document and was able to open it fine. This document came from a trusted person's email.

The next day, I was unable to open any downloaded file (that I had downloaded ever), from the finder level. The attached screenshot is the image I'm seeing. However, I've found if I open the App and select Open, I can get my files to open up.

But, it's still frustrating as I'm not able to open any file on my computer from the finder level, even if I was the one who created the file. I think it has something to do with the original Pages file. I've transferred all my stuff to an external drive but I need to be able to open things on my computer!

Hold on.

macOS High Sierra (10.13.4) [not latest version macOS High Sierra]

or

macOS Catalina (10.15.4)

to fix this issue right click or control click the file you want to open and click open. You should have another option “Open”.

or else go to system preferences>security and privacy and click “open anyway”.

usually when macOS says it’s “damaged” it isn’t damaged but just failed verification tests to see if it is a legitimate file or not.
