Looking for synthetic fiddle

Leonie,

In another thread you mentioned there is an Irish fiddle with MainStage 3.

I have MS3. Can you provide me with detailed instructions on how to get that fiddle from MS to GarageBand? At this point, I cannot even find it in MainStage! (But then, I don't use MainStage, so don't know my way around it.)

I'd love to use that fiddle.

After I installed MainStage 3 and downloaded all additional content in Mainstage 3,

I am seeing the Irish Fiddle in GarageBand, when I enter "Fiddle" into the search field of the library or go to the "Legacy" section of the sound library:

I have not used MainStage once, I am just using it to download the JamPacks.

Launch MainStage and go to the menu "MainStage 3 > Sound Library > Sound Library Manager".

In the Sound Library Manger select the sounds and loops you want to install.

The Irish Fiddle should be in the "JamPack World". Select the sounds for this JamPack to install.

You may also want to get the Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra, it has a nice collection of strings.

Once the additional sounds and loops have been installed, restart your Mac. In GarageBand go to the Loop browser to reindex all loops.

Then create a new Midi Track and enter "Fiddle" into the search field of the Library. Does the Irish Fiddle appear?

Hi...this post reply was very timely! I've now found the fiddle too. Any hints on the best way to get it sounding a little more natural? So far I've used a little reverb which helps. I'm thinking about maybe bouncing it to a wave, then flex pitch to try to get a little vibrato in...but if there's an easier way you've already tried?

I'm really new to this level of complexity in a DAW (been running with an very old hardware midi sequencer for years and recently treated myself to a brand new iMac with LogicPro when I retired)...it can do SO much I've found myself down rabbit holes rather than concentrating on the song.

Hope you don't mind me asking!

My thoughts are exactly the same. So much so, that for the song I was working on, I finally just punted and went with a (real) guitar fill where I'd been hoping for fiddle. I tried reverb, and yes, it helps slightly. But all in all, it doesn't sound that much like a fiddle, IMO.

But I really want vibrato. If you could explain more fully what you mean regarding how to get there, I'd really appreciate it. But if it requires more than GarageBand, then I'm out of luck, because GB is all I have. Well, and MainStage, if that has any value (I've never had reason to use it). Vibrato would make a huge difference, and also a way to slide from note to note.

Sorry...I didn’t realise I’d been diverted to the GarageBand discussion group, as I was searching in the LogicProX community. I’ve tried today to get vibrato to it, but no success. I’m sure there’s a way to do it in Logic, but I’m still a new user so not fully conversant yet. Seems like it won’t be any use to you if I do anyway. However, if I do ever find a decent sample, or manage to tweak that one, I’ll post a link so you can hear what I’ve done, in case you ever get to buy LogicPro or another DAW. Good luck!
