MacOS has AV protections built in. So, whoever is telling you that doesn't really know much about Macs. However, these are strange times and we all do what we have to do.
If there's no way around it, I'd consider clamX:
Normally I would answer with "none." However, since your work requires that you use an AV app, I would suggest that you consider using Malwarebytes for Mac. Macs don't get viruses. Instead, they are susceptible to forms of malware or adware.
In addition, the Apple OS, already has built-in AV-like security features which your work should already know about.
p.s. I just saw IdrisSeabright's reply and I would second using ClamXAV if you absolutely have to get an AV app for work. FWIW, ClamXAV is the default AV app used by Synology NAS devices.
The only anti-virus I'd install is ClamX AV and only if you really needed it.
It won't find any viruses, but neither will it do any harm. The rest are poison for a Mac.
Late to the party!
But, I feel much better knowing that you and Tesserax agree with my recommendation! Safety in numbers and all that.
Thank you very much for you for your advice and recommendation!
Hmm... I actually see that it is not free anymore but it is inexpensive.
Thank you again...I think I'm good to go!
