I'm wanting to use an external mic for video conferencing, but when I tried using it for the first time I realized that I couldn't hear any audio from the device. So I'm wondering if I can use a splitter to be able to use a pair of headphones to hear other people and use the external microphone at the same time.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like you are trying to use an external mic with the iPhone, and you do not hear sound from the iPhone.
You can try using the headphones that came with the iPhone, they have a mic connected inline.
