Question: Ejecting drives.

I have a new MacBook Pro 15 inch, 2019, 2.3 GHZ 8 Core Intel Core i9 with 16GB memory. I have two spare hard drives that were always connected and worked flawlessly with my 2015 model but when I plug these into this machine it often rejects them. I have one connected directly and the other through StarTech com adaptor with its own power supply. So frustrating. Also the bluetooth often disconnects the mouse and the keyboard.

Drives me crazy - can anyone help.

I've had to resort to using a powered USB3 hub in order to have my USB3 drives work properly on my Mac. Besides providing extra power the USB3 hub also acts like a buffer or filter preventing my Mac from having issues with the drives. Get a hub which supports the UASP protocol.

While I've used StarTech products for years and loved them, I did have issues with their original USB3 devices working with my USB3 Mac (hubs & drive docks) so I haven't used them since so I don't know if they work better now or not or if the issue was always with my Mac (I didn't have a non-Mac computer with USB3 ports to compare). I now like to use Plugable products, but their selection is limited. I used Vantec for a while, but the last time they changed their products and the quality & design was terrible. I'll probably go back to StarTech if Plugable doesn't have what I need or I may try Anker since some people have recommend them to me. OWC makes some nice products as well, but they don't always support SMART passthrough for accessing an external drive's SMART health information, otherwise the OWC products are a good choice.
