There are no “safe” general purpose duplicate finder apps. You likely do not have many duplicates of your documents, anyway. Where duplicates do occure is in music and photo files.

Both iTunes and the new Music app have built in Show Duplicates function. For image files, there are two paid apps: PhotoSweeper and PowerPhotos. PhotoSweeper looks for duplicates by comparing their histograms (appearance); PowerPhotos by comparing their metadata.

Why do you think you need such apps?

If you know where they are, sort them by name, or date, or size and you should be able to easily spot duplicates.
