How do I gift a movie via Apple TV 2020

You cannot gift a movie from an Apple TV.

You can only gift from an iOS device or iTunes on a computer

Hi jracette, for me, I found the issue was happening because the film I was trying to share was on pre-order and gifting wasn't available at that time. I was able to gift this way once the film was released (same film link I posted when I had the issue is now allowing gifts: https://tv.apple.com/ca/movie/ask-no-questions/umc.cmc.1h4pm35im6eern35vqgqupwh1 ) Is this your issue perhaps as well? Gifts appear to be only available for released films/tv not ones on pre-order. They are also only available within the same country/store.

I think I figured it out, the item I was trying to gift was a double feature bundle. For some reason iTunes won't let you do that.

No. I just checked it’s still there. Try closing the iTunes App, restart your device, then try it again.

i don’t believe the option is there on some other devices, but it is on iPad & iPhone- swipe up to display it

Thank you; finally an explanation that worked. What a horrible alteration to what was a simple purchasing setup. Not being able to buy via my Mac stinks.

I can only imagine there's some kind of rights issue re/not allowing gifting a movie from the Mac or even via the AppleTV, because this is convoluted and has to result in more people just going to Amazon and buying there.

This does not work for me. I try on iTunes Store App and Apple TV app on mobile, iPad and Mac and none of them give me an option to gift anymore from the share icon. I could have sworn it was there before. Did something change?

Yeah, I realized it's because the content is available only for pre-order. I don't see it mentioned explicitly, but it seems gifting is only for content that is now available in the store. Thanks.

I also have this problem. When I tap the share button from a movie page in the iTunes Store, there is no gift icon present. There is a gift icon present when I tap the share button on an album.

I thought I couldn't send gifts, but then I noticed the item I was trying to gift is still on pre-order. I don't see it said anywhere explicitly, but I believe you an only gift an item that is already available in the store.

Movies available for Pre-Order are not able to be Gifted. The movie needs to be for sale for there to be a gift option.

Also, make sure you swipe up on the Share menu, sometimes the gift option is below the visible area, and you need to swipe up to reveal it. And yes you cannot gift bundles, only individual movies.

It does work but it is well hidden, need to open iTunes Store app on iPad/iPhone, use share widget and choose gift, not very intuitive but it does work. Apple should have better instructions!
