MacBook air and MATLAB

I am considering buying the i7 MacBook Air and 16gb ram. I was just wondering how good it is at handling MATLAB? How much does it overheat? Will fans kick in eveytime I run it? Would it be better to get a MacBook pro?

Hello shridhar476,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're concerned with how a MacBook Air runs a specific program. I'll do what I can to help and point you to the right place.

The best thing to do is see what the software is capable of and see if the MacBook you are wanting to get fits those needs. The decision is ultimately up to you and how the MacBook Air would react will depend on a number of factors. These links might help with your decision by providing a comparison and what MATLAB is capable of:

Enjoy your day.

Hello sarah_s1

Yeah, on paper the MacBook Air should run the program smoothly based on the cpu and ram. However I do not know how the actual performance is. On paper my current laptop should also run matlab smoothly, however it does overheat and fans are quite loud. As Matlab is quite an intensive program and the fact that there are numerous complaints about the overheating of MacBook Air's, I don't know, and there are no articles which tell me if the MacBook Air can handle it smoothly or not.

Thanks.
