Can I delete duplicated files?

Almost all of my files in finder have duplicates (I don't know where they came from) and I was wondering if it is safe to delete the spare ones as I need to free up space - I recently started using Microsoft teams, word, powerpoint etc when I used to use pages, keynote - can i delete them?
