powering Macbook air with ipad power supply

I recently purchased a MacBook Air. I also have an iPad Air and was wondering if it was possible to use the iPad Air power supply to power the MacBook Air. I note that the latter has a usb-a port on it ( as do a number of power supplies that I have) as opposed to the usb-c on the MacBook Air. Is there any adapter that might work? Is the iPad Air power supply incompatible the MacBook Air for electrical reasons and thus should not be used?
