Whatsapp Background Refresh

I have turned off for every app on my iPhone the Background Refresh feature but if I go in the Battery usage I can see that Whatsapp usage is for example “2 hours background”. How is that even possible? And is there something to solve this problem?

We appreciate the update, elask22!

Next, we’d recommend removing the app from your device and installing it again. Before doing so, we’d recommend ensuring that you have a backup of that data. With WhatsApp specifically, you can create a backup using the steps found at: WhatsApp FAQ - How to back up to iCloud

After reinstalling the app, open WhatsApp to test and see if the background activity occurs prior to restoring your chats. After testing, you can restore your old chats using: WhatsApp FAQ - How to restore your chat history

If the background activity still occurs, we’d recommend reaching out to WhatsApp for assistance at: Contact WhatsApp or directly within WhatsApp. If they are unable to assist, Contact Apple Support

Best regards!

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, elask22!

From my understanding, you disabled Background App Refresh on your iPhone for all apps, however it looks like it’s being used by WhatsApp. I’d be happy to help!

Since you mentioned that it’s already disabled, I’d recommend enabling the feature for WhatsApp, restarting your iPhone and disabling it again. If it still occurs, Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support after completing a backup of your data. Once complete, use Update apps or use automatic downloads - Apple Support to ensure you have the latest version of WhatsApp.

Let me know the results, and have a great day!
