I thought you get a year of AppleTv free with the purchase of a device.

When you buy a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac, it includes one year of Apple TV+ for free.

Apple TV+ - One Year Offer - Apple

It is not automatic; you have to sign up for it. It is a user choice.

Apple TV+ is the subscription service for Apple Originals (original programs distributed by Apple under the ‘Apple TV+’ name). It does not include free access to other services, such as the iTunes Store movie catalog.

That you have to activate yourself is all very good, however:

The Sales assistance was very kind to tell us about this option when purchasing the iPad, and that was a nice surprise.

At that time, we did not have a television

set which supported Apple TV+, and it was not really something we wanted to

watch off an iPhone or iPad. When we recently got a supporting TV, the option

was gone from the app/unit.

We couldn't understand this, and was

very surprised when Apple Support informed us, the offer was only valid 3

months after purchase. We were not much past that date, but nothing could be

done.

Nobody informed us regarding this limit.

Not at the time of purchase, and not a single notification in the app (and it's

not like Apple is not sending loads of notification regarding almost everything

else).

So, when we were ready to take advantage

of the campaign offer, it was gone. It's much like offering a kid a lollipop,

and when she accepts with a smile, you snap it away and then say, "Nah too

slow, you can't have it anyway".

I mean we would actually be better off,

if we hadn’t been given the offer in the first place.

Compared to what customer service I usually expect from Apple, this resulted in a truly poor customer experience.
