Questions about NEW magic keyboard (2020)

How can I tell when the magic keyboard needs charging, or has reached a full charge? It’s working just fine with my iPad Pro (3rd gen) but does not show up in Settings>Bluetooth, and does not show up in the batteries “widget”. Thanks.

iPad Pro 12.9-inch, 3rd Gen, Wi-Fi

The USB-C port in the case is for charging your iPad, so it leaves the iPad USB-C port free for other stuff like a hub so you can attach a SD card, external hard drive.

So it's a pass through charger for the Ipad rather than a charger for the keyboard. You never have to use it if you don't want to, it's just there for convince and to make the Ipad/magic keyboard more like a laptop with the multiple ports.

I haven't seen the pamphlet so I am not sure on the wording or what it tells you to do. If you go to YouTube there is a number of videos and reviews about it and they all explain how the port/charging works.

Hope that clears it up

Are you talking about the magic keyboard for the Ipad the one with a trackpad?

If so, the Ipad magic keyboard does not have a battery it is powered by your smart connector which is the three small round circles on the back of your Ipad. Same reason why nothing is showing up in the batteries widget, as there isn't one.

It won't show up in bluetooth, it doesn't connect via bluetooth it connects via the smart connector on the back.

Hope this helps

Thanks. This is the brand-new “floating” magic keyboard just released by Apple. It has a USB-C port in the back for charging. I do see the 3 little circles on the back of the ipad, just as you said. So now I’m confused. Do I never need to “charge the ipad using the USB-C port”, as stated in the pamphlet that came with the keyboard? Thanks for any clarification!
