File Vault problem with Mac and Password

I am having a file vault problem with my Mac. I see that other people have had this in the past. It does give you the option to disable FileVault, however, it asks for your password to do so. When I enter my password, it doesn’t recognize it. It gives me the option to change my password, so I do, but then it doesn’t recognize the changed password either. I have three children doing online learning and now I am completely locked out of my computer. Please help

Are there multiple user accounts on this computer?

When you restart the computer are you prompted to enter your password one time or are you prompted to enter the password two times?

Are you changing your password using the "Users & Groups" System Preferences or from the "Security" System Preferences? Try changing the password from the "Security" pane especially if you have multiple users.

Here is an Apple article for resetting a user account password.

Edit: If you can log into your computer, then I highly recommend you make sure to have a good backup before doing anything else in case you become completely locked out of the computer.
