after much consideration, I gave up my two last remaining 32-bit apps and decided to upgrade to Catalina from Mojave. went through the whole process, but the software update badge still shows in the system preferences. when I check updates, it says up to date. I shut down the laptop twice, restarted, but it's still there. I'm on MacBook Pro 13-inch 2016.
any ideas on how I can fix this? many thanks...drv

Yes you can easily delete this corrupt plist from your Finder >Go>Go To Folder copy and paste:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist
delete this plist and reboot

software update badge won't go away after update to Catalina 10.15.4
