Mac OS keyboard viewer doesn't highlight trackpad taps

Since upgrading to Mojave the keyboard viewer on my iMac doesn't highlight letters as they are tapped on my Magic Trackpad. However, the letters are highlighted as intended if clicked with a mouse. The keyboard viewer worked properly with mouse/trackpad in older versions of Mac OS.

This is more annoying than critical as the keyboard viewer still works, but it's harder to tell if a tap has registered. If there isn't a known fix for this now, hopefully it will be addressed in future OS updates.

you can test using an alternate keyboard— eliminate the obvious first.

You can try Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

leroydouglas , thanks for your recommendations. I reset the NVRAM/PRAM but that didn't resolve the issue.

As for using an alternate keyboard, my physical keyboard is working fine. It's only the virtual/desktop 'Keyboard Viewer' that isn't behaving the same since the upgrade to Mojave (it actually started in High Sierra and has persisted in Mojave).

I've linked a screen recording to show the issue. The top line was tapped on my Magic Trackpad and you can see in the virtual keyboard below the notepad that the keys mostly don't highlight. The bottom line was clicked with a mouse and each key highlights as it's clicked. Before the OS upgrade, the keys would clearly highlight whether I used the trackpad or mouse.

This probably hasn't come up much as I'm guessing not many people use the keyboard viewer. I'll file a bug report. Thanks again.
