internal keyboard stops

internal keyboard stopped working, no damage done. power button and trackpad works great, brought in for repair they asked to delete all my data, i said no and they asked me to connect a external keyboard and save all my data, how on earth do i connect my bluetooth keyboard on a login page of macbook.
