And yes, it could still die. Remove the SIM and look in the slot. If you see a red dot water has gotten into the phone.
Pretty much everybody who has dropped their phone in water ends up with a dead phone. The problems get worse over time as the internal corrosion progresses.
This is a user-to-user technical support forum. You can post an issue and get advice on how to resolve it. With over 1 billion phones in use if you ask others to post if they have the same issue it could get out of hand really quickly.
Plus the fact that with over a billion phones in use no matter what problem you have it is certain there are other people with the same problem, so you don’t learn anything by asking that.

Does your phone show water damage? Just about every phone dropped in water becomes damaged. Water damage is not covered by Apple iPhone warranty. So what is your question really about?
