High Sierra Quick Look Slow

Been trying to look for a solution and haven't found one yet, but every now and then, using quicklook on images runs freezes my computer. Everything is frozen for about 20sec before a preview is shown. This doesn't happen for PDFs, but image files. If I restart my computer it works again, so not entirely sure of the cause. A few things I have tried below:

  • Delete FINDER preference file
  • In Terminal, clear qlook cache
  • SMC reset

Tried checking logs to see if there is anything that can give an indication of why this is happening, but nothing so far. May just upgrade my OS, but worried about apps not working.

Will do this weekend. But potentially seem like a potential hardware problem. When the issue pop-ups, sometimes can occur just after waking from sleep, which I always found weird if is something to do with software.

I am currently plugged into a Belkin Hub, which then connects to a external monitor. When the hang up starts to happen, if I unplug the hub from my laptop, my laptop doesn't immediately switch to single screen. It hangs for a bit. After letting it sit, putting it to sleep, etc, it recognizes finally that it is no longer connected to a 2nd monitor. After this happens, my finder/quick look is working normal again. I'm not use to hardware causing hangs, but anyone experience this? Above leaves me to believe it has something to do with the hub, but guess it could always have to do with laptop port potentially?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

Delete this file ^ restart...

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-***@***-SharedServices.Agent.plist

~ tilde indicates hidden Home Library.

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

  1. From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.
  2. In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Hard to test that. As it just stops working after a few days. Nothing that I can tell specific with any application that causes it. If i restart the computer works again. When it is not working, also any finder restarts, qlmanage cache resets don't fix it as well. Same with when I run qlook in termainl, no real error messages to know what it is freezing the machine.
