Set up iPad for child without syncing data

Hi. I know there are similar questions on previous threads but I cannot exactly find the answer. Young children and new iPad for their use mainly. I don’t want all my photos, emails etc on their iPad, which are on there now having tried to set up today. I don’t really want to share apps, etc as it seems to suggest with family sharing. I’ve created an email address for them but not an Apple ID. How can they use the iPad without my stuff on it? I was going to restore to factory settings and start again. Any ideas about setting up without syncing?

Thank you in advance.

You should erase the device and start all over again. I also think that you should set up family sharing and let the child have his or her own Apple ID. You really don’t want children sharing your texts, contacts, photos and other private information. If they have their own Apple ID, they can download the content that they want as long as you pay for it, and you can have control over it by using Family Sharing. You can also have some more control over what they do by using screen time.

Thank you so much. I’m new at all this as it’s our first iPad. So do I just set the iPad up with their Apple ID from the start and then they can get access to things that I subscribe to like Spotify kids? YouTube kids? Etc? Not sure how it all works. And it means my stuff won’t be on there? Thanks again.

If you give a child his or her own Apple ID, separate from yours, none of you content is shared at all. Even if you use Family Sharing and one of the children were to download an app from your purchases, they still don’t have access to your data. Family Sharing simply allows you to share purchased content.

I suggest that you read the article about Family Sharing and the links in that article and if you have questions, post back. We will answer them as best we can.
