Is it possible to subscribe to the same app twice under the same AppleID? Wife and I are have to have two separate accounts for the app we use however we use one AppleID to purchase everything through. Do we need to sign out of my AppleID and use hers just for this one subscription?

Yes you can only subscribe to one subscription per app for an apple ID.
You guys should consider using family sharing instead of using the same apple ID for iTunes purchases.

If you purchase an app with an Apple ID that you share between two devices, then the app will be available on each device. See Do You Have to Buy the Same iPhone App for Each of Your Devices? https://www.lifewire.com/buy-iphone-app-for-each-compatible-device-2000643 I think this also would apply to two accounts. I found only one source claiming this to be true though.
Thanks for the response. My son and I use family sharing but for some reason never set it up on my wife's phone. I'll look into getting that set up.
