Apple TV 4K lan not working

Hi,

Please help. My Apple TV 4K does not want to connect to my router from this morning via lan cable. Wi-Fi works fine only if I leave the lan cable that goes to my router plugged into my Apple TV.

If I unplug the lan cable, do restart and under settings, network it shows ethernet connected but there is no cable plugged in. I tried to connect wirelessly, works fine but drops every 5 sec. Plugged the lan cable into Apple TV and router. Connect to Wi-Fi now and no disconnecting. Working now via Wi-Fi.

What troubles me is that the led that shows on the router that the lan is connected does not light up. I tested the port with my ps3 and it works fine.

Please help

IP address 169.254.x.x: This is what's called an Automatic Private (or self-assigned) IP address. An IP in this range means that the computer is not able to see the network.

In this case, this is likely to be related to the device thinking is is connected through ethernet, when no ethernet cable is attached. Solving that will likely solve network connectivity. If the ethernet port is clear and clean, and not physically broken, then the electronics of the network component may have been damaged. Lightning may have caused that. I can’t think of other unintentional causes.

“Repair” of Apple TV boxes often consists of exchanging the whole box. If out-of-warranty or not covered by warranty, then it has a fixed price per model.

Hi again,

No reset did not change anything. I struggled a lot to get the Apple TV through the reset steps. Could not activate via bluetooth with my iPhone 7. No network. No Wi-Fi. Did the settings manually and skipped the sign in process. If I go to my network settings the connection shows “ Ethernet - Connected”. No cable plugged in. Sorry I think my Apple TV is faulty. Will take it to the closest iStore to check it for me. I had this device for almost 3years now and I know my device fairly well. I am a Apple “lover” and I never had a problem like this before. I have attached some pics again. Sorry I am out of answers🤔.

Thank you

Good day, I have moved my Apple TV to my bedroom, so I can only use Wi-Fi. There is now network cable plugged into the network port but device says under Network settings “ Ethernet - Connected”. No idea how this is possible. See pic attached.

I will reset my device as you explained and will reply shortly what the effect is. Thank you

Hi,

I am sure lightning is my problem. We had a severe thunderstorm 2 days ago and this is actually when my problem starter.

I get it to work sometimes via Wi-Fi only after restarting it a few times.

I will claim from my insurance, only thing I can do.

Thank you, I think your advice it correct and as I expected.
