Saving video/photo data from iMessage

I just noticed when I saved a couple of videos and photos that were sent to me via iMessage, that it is showing the date and time they were actually Taken rather than the date and time that I saved them..... (eg I saved it April 20 but it’s showing April 5)

why and how is this happening?

and how to I turn it off so people can’t so easily access that information on pictures and videos I send via iMessage?!

This is due to the EXIF data which is stored in photos. Some services (such as Facebook Messenger or Discord for example) strip all EXIF data from images before they are sent. iMessage does not strip any EXIF data, and all images sent through iMessage will contain data such as when the image was taken, its GPS location when the image was taken etc.

Unfortunately you cannot disable this unless you want to go to the effort of downloading a third-party EXIF data stripper from somewhere
