Tried multiple passcodes and cannot remember whIch one we used for parental control is there any way besides resetting that I can change it

It depends. If your device is updated or can be updated to 13.4 then the screen time passcode can be reset by itself
If not then I’m sorry to say wiping the device is the only way to get around it
