Is the amount of CPU used here unusual?

I am using a brand new Macbook Air 13 inch running recently installed Catalina 10.15.4. I have a 1.6 Ghz processor. It runs unusually slowly for a brand new mac and lags when I open multiple tabs and/or programs at the same time. The Activity Monitor screenshots below show recent activity. Is the CPU% unusual? I think it is also worth noting that I have bought the mac from an authorized reseller overseas, not an Apple Store.

Was the computer new or used?

Run the Apple Diagnostics.

Try an SMC reset and a PRAM reset.

Do you have the same issue if you disconnect all external devices?

Run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

I don't monitor the memory consumption on my Mac that closely so I don't know what is normal for each process, but I would agree with @John Galt that Google Chrome (or any browser for that matter, but especially Chrome) will use a LOT of memory because each Window (and perhaps even tab) is sandboxed to add to the security of the browser. This overhead uses up a lot of memory. Plus a lot of web pages contain a lot of code and advertising which quickly zaps memory.

If you won't post the EtreCheck report there isn't much we can do to assist you in understanding your system because we don't have the details necessary since we cannot see the computer first hand. The EtreCheck report by itself isn't enough to know your system is Ok as it needs to be analyzed by someone familiar with the various apps and even the hardware itself. You can either post the report here for other experienced contributors to analyze for free or you can pay to have the developer analyze it for you. The report will alert you to possible adware, but it won't alert you to issues with questionable apps or "semi-legit" apps that are known to cause problems. The EtreCheck app is only designed to collect an anonymized snapshot of the hardware and software installed so it can be posted here to be analyzed.
