Home Sharing HLS Content

The most recent apple TV movies are downloading as HLS files. Regardless if HDR content is checked. This format does not appear to allow homesharing to the AppleTV. The movies do not show up in the appleTV computer download section. I can see all other movies that have a MP4 file association. Is there a way to be sure I download the older MP4 file? I don't have the bandwidth to continually download watch the movies. I need to download them to the computer directly. Thanks for any ideas.

No, that is not the issue. I can stream over 200 of my movies. It is the new HLS packaging. These downloaded movies cannot be homeshared. If you turn off the multi channel audio and the HDR you can force it, however those are not exclusive to streaming. Therefore it is an appleTV OS issue. This new packaging causes issues. A few days after it released you only had to disable the HDR video setting to download the MP4 file. Now you need to disable multi channel audio as well.... it does not like Dolby atoms.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From your message it sounds like you are unable to use Home Sharing to access your computer's media library through your Apple TV.

If this is accurate, begin by working through the troubleshooting steps provided under, "On your Apple TV," from this article: Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices.

Once you've worked through those steps, if the issue persists, work through these as well: If you can't stream or watch movies or TV shows from the Apple TV app, iTunes Store, or third-party apps.

Thanks for clarifying that the issue is only with newer movies you have downloaded.

Based on this information the next step would be to Contact Apple Support for more assistance. Be sure to provide them with the same information you've provided here.

Any chance you’d made any headway on this issue? I’ve run into that exact same thing, seems like Apple should just release a codec for the Appletv to make this work since it’s their file and their device.
